Quincy Miller has changed his mind and will declare for the NBA draft instead of returning to Baylor.
"On April 10, I kind of rushed my decision because I had a lot of pressure to make a decision," Miller said. "I let the decision get to me. Every ballplayer has dreamed of being an NBA player. I also wanted to finish this semester without the distraction, and I've done that.
"It's going to be disappointing to some fans. I apologize if I excited too many people, but I feel like this is the best move for me. I love Baylor so much. I love the campus. I love the university. I love everything about Baylor. But I think, for myself right now, this was best for me."
Miller, who was the co-Big 12 freshman of the year, is projected as a mid first round pick.
Andrew and Aaron Harrison, top-5 prospects class of 2013, are considering Kentucky, Villanova, Maryland and Baylor.
“Our lists are still open,” Andrew said. “We have a top four, but that doesn’t mean another school can’t come up.”
Both will attend the same college.
“We’re definitely a package deal,” said Aaron. “One-hundred percent.”
Isaiah Austin, a top-four recruit nationally in the class of 2012, is eager to be a part of a Baylor program that is quickly becoming one of the elite recruiters in the country.
“I fit into that program perfectly. Everybody’s long and athletic and agile,” Austin said. “That’s what coach (Scott) Drew likes, to get out and run, and that’s what I like to do, so that’s why I chose there.”
Drew has told Austin to focus on certain areas.
“He really just told me to stay on my toes on defense and get my hands on a lot of tipped balls — contest shots, block shots, rebound and then the offense is going to come,” Austin said. “I’ll crash the offense boards, and that’s how I’ll get my points. If I get touches, I’ll make the most of the touches I get.”
Quincy Miller will return to Baylor for his sophomore season.
The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game as a freshman.
He was projected as a first round pick.
Perry Jones III is giving up his final two seasons with Baylor to make himself available for the NBA draft.
Jones averaged 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds a game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line.
“I want to thank Baylor Nation for an unbelievable two years,” Jones III said. “Baylor will always be a second home to me and I look forward to spending a lot of time in Waco and working towards finishing my degree.
“Thanks again to all the great Baylor fans for accepting me into your family,” Jones III said.
Brittney Griner had 26 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks to lead Baylor to a 80-61 win over Notre Dame in the NCAA women’s basketball championship on Tuesday night, capping a 40-0 season for the Lady Bears, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.
Andrew and Aaron Harrison have narrowed their list to four schools -- Kentucky, Villanova, Maryland and Baylor – their father, Aaron Harrison Sr., confirmed.
The elder Harrison said Andrew and Aaron will make a decision in the late summer.
“When school stars again and summer is over, they’re going to make a decision,” Aaron Harrison Sr. said. “I want them to sit back and enjoy their senior year of high school. They’ll look and make the best decision then."
Aaron and Andrew are regarded as top-10 prospects in the class of 2013.
Perry Jones III and Quincy Miller are expected to decide their NBA futures this week, Baylor coach Scott Drew said.
Both players are projected as first round picks.
